I wanted to give you an update on how pleased we are with the replacement of the factory-mounted controls on the York rooftop units with Automated Logic. As you know, we experienced many problems with the factory-installed controls.

It was not uncommon to find one unit utilizing free cooling while the mechanical refrigeration was energized on the other one. We observed a drastic improvement in the staging of the mechanical cooling since upgrading to Automated Logic. Before the retrofit, if the units were using mechanical cooling, all four stages would energize and operate at full capacity. Since the retrofit, Intercon tuned the control loops to precisely match the cooling capacity to the required load. Meaning, we are not using (and paying for) more cooling than needed. At certain times, we are operating half as much mechanical cooling as we previously did while maintaining a more comfortable indoor environment.

Since Intercon suggested the controls retrofit, system efficiency improved, utility costs decreased, and comfort level increased. Overall, we are pleased with the investment.

I wanted to update Intercon on the energy consumption of my property on North Duke Street in York.

As you are aware, we started the process of analyzing the energy use in this building over a year ago.  Intercon proposed to install an Automated Logic energy management system on the eight (8) Trane rooftop units.  Additionally, Intercon also recommended a building-specific Linc preventative maintenance agreement for my mechanical equipment.  I accepted both proposals for the building and the installation of the energy management system was completed in late fall; the maintenance agreement started in late summer.

Since the installation of the energy management system and the ongoing maintenance of the rooftop units, I have received my first energy bills and am quite pleased with the results.  My decision to implement Intercon’s solution was based on potential energy savings between 10-15%.  I am pleased to inform you that I have realized a 30% reduction in my energy consumption and I have had fewer tenant complaints about the comfort and indoor air quality within the building.

In summary, I would like to thank you for the professionalism your company has shown me and I look forward to a long term relationship with Intercon.

I wanted to take the opportunity to let you know how pleased I am with the service that Intercon has implemented on our facility and mechanical equipment.  The peace of mind that your services provide the business gives me and my employees the comfort and ideal working conditions for a graphics and digital print shop such as ours.  As you know, the shop needs critical care on our system in terms of humidity and temperature control for paint drying areas and proper ventilations and your service plan is second to none in providing us exactly what we need.

I like knowing that if anything ever goes wrong with any of my HVAC equipment and paint drying booth, all I need to do is pick up the phone and make one call.  I also appreciate the open communication and the follow-up process in which Intercon continues to look for ways to improve upon their service.

During the week of February 20th, our facility was experiencing network issues; more specifically, communication of the entire energy management system was offline.  Initial reaction was a fluky error and by zapping a few cards and the issue would subside.<

After much patience, I decided to call for service.  Your technician arrived and spent the rest of the day troubleshooting – checking connections, rebooting cards, and a more thorough diagnosis than I am capable of.  Collectively, we removed controllers on the 5th floor for further analysis.  The system seemed stable and we thought we had isolated the problem.

Later that night while at home, I was called by the janitorial company since the lighting overrides were not operating.  I logged in from home to discover the entire building was offline.  Immediate reaction was to call for service with overnight below freezing temperatures forecasted.  The on-call technician was not familiar with our facility thus I suggested a call to the same technician who worked on the issue during the day.  Though not on-call, this technician arrived at my building about an hour later (about 10PM) and spent the next 6 hours diagnosing the cause of the communication anomaly.

As the night grew later and later, we were both getting frustrated but Mike’s persistence and determination triumphed as he isolated and corrected a very insidious problem.  I appreciate Mike’s dedication to customer service and satisfaction.  His work ethic is deemed valuable to PHFA and hopefully Intercon Automation.  Please accept my sincerest gratitude for the work Mike Anderson has done at our facility.
